And I Thought My Life Was Getting Weird 6 comments

I just took a call from a potential client who wanted to know if it was legal under Hawaii law to videotape the actions of other people, without their consent, in a condominium of which he, and the people he wants to videotape, are all part owners.

“Why would you want to do that?”

“Because I think that what they’re doing is immoral.”

“Um, okay.  I’m sorry, we don’t handle those kind of issues. You going have to find somebody else.”

The best part – the all have the same last name, so it’s either father watching daughter or wife or some other combination I don’t really want to envision.

ha ha ha – and the weirdest part is that I think it actually IS legal in Hawaii. California (where I live) has the tightest restrictions for filming/photographing/recording people, which probably stems from all the movie/photography/music studios here. I can’t remember WHY I know this, I just do… and I also know that’s why a lot of those hidden cameras shows and “Cheaters” type shows can’t be filmed in CA. They have to get your approval BEFORE filming you, not after like most places.

Anyway: HA HA HA. I love that something immoral is happening. Think McPoyle Twins on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. No wait, don’t.

Mia, I know that under Hawaii law it is legal to audio tape conversations with people as long as one person (i.e. the person doing the taping) knows about it.

In this situation, the person doing the taping wouldn’t be one of the people being taped, so I’m not clear on the law.

But there were four of them, two women and a guy (the video-tapees)and the caller was a guy. So it’s not some simple issue with just a husband and wife, cause the numbers don’t add up.

I remember a time when you would have thoroughly enjoyed the thought of what you now call “some other combination I don’t really want to envision.”

So, essentially, you aren’t interested in examing some loonbird’s twisted view of morality, with the additional bonus material re: videotaped incest among a group of people with common interest in the ownership of a dwelling? Kevkev turns up his nose and sez, “ehhhhh — not interested in following up on this!” Seriously, dude….get on the stick.

I ain’t saying take him as a client, but you really had the opportunity to share a much more delightful story.

When I check your blog, I want gold, Gramps. That’s all I’m sayin.

I feel like he called to ask because he’d already done it. Guaranteed that video already exists…
